Living in this neighborhood, I frequently smell wood smoke--more often than I have in other places I've lived. I've also seen some rather huge bonfires in people's back yards and sometimes even front yards. I've looked at some of these fires and said to myself, "This can't be legal."

[co-op name] update, part 1
We talked about the objections to the name change at the house meeting, though almost half the house was absent from that meeting. We lacked quorum, and as such, could not make any official decisions. But we talked about the issue and we agreed that we should both talk with the concerned individuals one-on-one and also develop a unified house statement which, unfortunately, we could not develop that evening.
O…M…G…Obama elected
It is taking a while for it to fully register what has just happened.
yes, i unpacked my computer–i’ve just been busy
The problem with helping start a new co-op house is that it gets in the way of blogging. How inconvenient. But I guess it should be good fodder for writing, I think, right? Well, let me try.
slow train comin’ to albuquerque
I've been so busy that I only found time to post an update about the co-op when I boarded a train to Albuquerque on Saturday.
well, i’m here
Packing and unpacking took forever, as they often will, but moving day itself wasn't too bad—four of us guys, one fourteen-foot rental truck, three hours. Not including the pick-up and drop-off of the truck, but still, pretty good. There's a lot to be said for a simpler lifestyle, and there's one big piece of evidence right there.
another co-op beckons
Yes, I'm moving to another co-op, after 5 ½ years at my current one. A co-op on the other side of the Capitol was needing members, and after deliberating and praying about it, I decided it was time for me to take the leap.
time capsule 2003
My first bedroom in this co-op house was tiny—maybe 7 x 11 feet, and so I had to make hard decisions as to what keep in there and what I could temporarily part with. I moved out of the room only eight months later, and over the years I have gradually moved to bigger and bigger rooms within the house. But I never went through my stuff in the attic until last week. Going through these possessions was like going through a time capsule from 2003. I knew basically what was up there, but had forgotten about a lot of this stuff.
time capsule 1973
Today, a couple of young women stopped by our co-op house. One of them explained that her mother lived here in this co-op in 1973, and that her parents met here. They wondered if they could have a tour of the co-op and be allowed to take a few pictures.
the tea kettle consensus
I noticed that the first item on the house meeting agenda was to “come to some unified agreement about the tea kettle.” I was surprised that there might be anything controversial about the tea kettle.
