High school students are supporting their peers in ways unimaginable when I was in high school. When I was in high school in the 80s, to be LGBT was always a secret. A student in my class died of suicide, and one of the suspected reasons might have been over feelings about their sexual orientation. Gay jokes were still widely considered acceptable and funny, even we lived in a notoriously liberal suburb.
